Gabe Wright lands on his feet after being released by Miami Dolphins

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Gabe Wright (90) rushes the passer during an NFL game against the Buffalo Bills on Sept. 3, 2015, at Ford Field in Detroit.

The Oakland Raiders were awarded defensive tackle Gabe Wright off the NFL's waiver wire on Wednesday.

The Miami Dolphins had waived the former Auburn standout on Tuesday after he was involved in one of the four altercations at the team's practice on Monday. Reports indicated Wright struck Kenyan Drake "with an elbow or fist" while the helmetless running back's back was turned during a dustup between offensive and defensive players.

A former Alabama standout, Drake is projected to be the Dolphins' first-team running back this season. Wright was not considered a starting prospect.

The Raiders are 10th in the waiver-wire priority this offseason. Landing with Oakland indicates the first nine teams in the waiver-wire order didn't put in a claim for Wright, although teams behind the Raiders might have.

Oakland had a spot on its roster for Wright after putting defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin on waivers. Rubin was listed with the third-team defense on the Raiders' most recent depth chart.

A starter on Auburn's 2013 SEC championship team and BCS national-championship runner-up, Wright entered the NFL as a fourth-round choice of the Detroit Lions in the 2015 draft.

Wright played seven games for the Lions as a rookie.

Wright played five games in 2016 with the Cleveland Browns, who signed Wright for their practice squad after he'd been let go at the end of the preseason.

Wright spent training camp with the Eagles last year and had four tackles and 1.5 sacks in Philadelphia's preseason finale, but still was released when the team reduced its 90-player preseason roster to the regular-season limit of 53.

The Dolphins signed Wright for their practice squad two days later when he cleared waivers. He spent the 2017 season on the Dolphins' practice squad except for the final week of the regular season, when he joined the active roster and played in the final game.
