The Giants are the No. 23 rushing defense in the NFL and falling ever since trading defensive tackle Damon Harrison to the Lions. Another hit came this week when strong safety Landon Collins suffered a season-ending partially torn labrum that will require surgery.

Collins had a team-high 96 tackles and forced a fumble the last time these teams met in Week 8. But Peterson had the last laugh when he rushed for 149 yards on 26 carries, including a game-winning 64-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

While the Giants only have two starters on injured reserve — Collins and center Jon Halapio — and are missing Beckham due to a bruised quad, the Redskins' lead in the NFC East Division disappeared as injuries mounted, especially along the offensive line.

"They're going to try to do what Mark can do best, and try to play to the strengths of their team," Giants coach Pat Shurmur said. "I know they've got probably a soon-to-be Hall of Fame running back, so you can just connect the dots and see what they'll probably do on offense to compensate for some of the injuries they have."

Though Sanchez is often viewed as a draft bust and remembered for one blooper-reel fumble with the Jets, Shurmur coached him as offensive coordinator with the Eagles, when Sanchez was 4-4 as an injury fill-in.
