Jackson was laid to rest in Montgomery over the weekend, but only 10 family members were permitted to attend the services due to coronavirus restrictions. Others mourned from the parking lot, where they watched a live feed of the funeral from inside the church.

'It's hard,' Jackson's cousin Brandon Richmond told the Montgomery Advertiser. 'We grew up with him, that's our mentor. He was like our other father figure. It's hard! I wanted to see him! It's just hard that we can't see him.'

Jackson had been working for Tennessee State University as the Tigers's quarterbacks coach.

His former Seahawks teammate Russell Wilson reacted to the news on Twitter, writing: 'TJack... you will be missed. Praying for your family...Love you man.'

'Tarvaris Jackson was my mentor!' tweeted former Seahawks teammate BJ McDaniels. 'He played the game with dignity and taught me how to use my MIND to manipulate the defense. When my family couldn't make it to Seattle for holidays, it was TJACK who invited me to his house to celebrate with his family!'

A former second-round pick out of Alabama State, Jackson started 20 games for the Minnesota Vikings over his first five seasons with the team.

Jackson had his most prolific season with Seattle in 2011, throwing 14 touchdowns for 3,091 yards over 14 games in place of the injured Wilson.

He also played for Buffalo before returning to Seattle to finish his career 2015.

Jackson had returned to Alabama State as a quarterbacks coach in 2018 before moving on to a similar role at TSU.
