CLEVELAND, Ohio — Glenville and John Hay High School football players got a special surprise when they went to Browns practice in Berea on Sunday.
After the practice was over, Browns executive vice president JW Johnson, running back Nick Chubb, receiver Amari Cooper and cornerback Greg Newsome II surprised each Glenville and John Hay player with brand new football jerseys for the 2022 season.
The two schools learned they were getting new football jerseys back in December 2021 when the Browns and FirstEnergy announced that a donation from FirstEnergy was providing the jerseys, along with lights for Bump Taylor Field that would allow teams in the Senate Athletic League to practice and play games at night.
Bump Taylor Field was one of several fields throughout the city of Cleveland that received a turf field from the Browns as part of a two-year project from 2016 to 2017.
They will get to debut their new jerseys in Week 1 on Aug. 19 as John Hay hosts Toledo Scott and Glenville travels to play St. Vincent-St. Mary.
