The foreign ministry of Argentina has expressed concern about the humanitarian situation in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) due to the ongoing Azerbaijani blockage of the Lachin corridor that links Artsakh to Armenia, reports Diario Armenia, a newspaper published in Argentina.

Argentina's foreign minister Santiago Cafiero received Aram Mouratian, regional director of the Armenian National Council of South America (CNA) on Thursday in his office.

"The director of the CNA expressed his extreme concern regarding the humanitarian situation in which the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has found itself due to the blockade of the Lachin corridor that has been ongoing for 45 days. The foreign minister was also told about the need for Argentina to condemn the actions of the Azerbaijani state and to demand the guarantee of the free movement of people and goods [through the Lachin corridor]," the newspaper notes.

After the meeting, the Argentine foreign ministry "expressed its concern about the humanitarian situation in the Lachin corridor, and emphasized the need to ensure free movement through the corridor."

"Also, the [foreign] minister reiterated the principles that guide Argentina's actions in the matter of human rights protection and peaceful settlement of disputes," Diario Armenia notes.
