Jacksonville Jazz Festival: See big moments from jazz music's biggest names

1982: Dizzy Gillespie and Della Reese helped draw 110,000 people, including a dancing Mayor Jake Godbold, to Metropolitan Park in October 1982 for the third annual Mayport and All That Jazz festival, described by its sponsors as the largest one-day, free jazz festival in the U. S. This year ' s concert was the first not actually held in Mayport. The open-air extravaganza soon became known as the Jacksonville Jazz Festival, a new but enduring tradition.
