Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke looks set to face increased competition back in his homeland after a multi-billion dollar deal was agreed.

Kroenke's takeover of the Gunners, which was completed in September 2018, saw the 77-year-old's total shareholding for the North London club increase to 97.14 percent. The total value of Arsenal at the time of the takeover was estimated to be worth around $2.3billion (£1.8billion).

It's not just in the Premier League where Kroenke has investments, but also in the United States. Kroenke is also the owner of basketball giants the Denver Nuggets in the NBA, Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids and American football outfit the Los Angeles Rams in the NFL.

The NBA world has recently seen the news that the Boston Celtics will be the subject of a multi-billion dollar takeover. Reports have stated that a group led by businessman William Chisholm has agreed a $6.1billion (£4.73billion) takeover of the Celtics.

Should the deal go through, it would see the Celtics become the most valuable sports team in the world. The current record for the most expensive sports team stands at the $6.05billion (£4.69billion) paid for the Washington Commanders in the NFL back in 2023.

CNBC recently reported that Sixth Street, a private equity firm, is part of the consortium that is lining up to complete the takeover of the Celtics. It has been reported that Sixth Street have put more than $1billion (£770million) into the investment to purchase the Celtics.

If the takeover goes through, Kroene would have further competition in the NBA world, as well as in the Premier League with Arsenal. The Gunners are already competing with Liverpool for the league title, and have a Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid on the horizon.
