This week’s nominees:
Gavin Betten and Ethan Hendrix, Manchester: The seniors were instrumental in leading Manchester to its first Class 2A semistate championship. Hendrix hit a 3-pointer with 8 seconds remaining to lift Manchester to a 56-55 win over Jimtown in the semifinal at Michigan City. Hendrix finished with 19 points and five rebounds and Betten added 16 points and 14 rebounds. In a 53-50 win over Gary 21st Century in the semistate championship, Betten went for 22 points and 14 rebounds and Hendrix added 16 points and six assists.
Dezmon Briscoe, Crispus Attucks: The 6-9 senior, who is now uncommitted after a coaching change at Iowa, went for 20 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots in Crispus Attucks’ 67-49 win over New Palestine in the Class 3A semistate championship at Southport. Briscoe also had a triple double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocked shots in a 61-55 win over Princeton in the early game.
Rylan Crocker, Orleans: The 6-1 senior had 24 points, four assists and the game-winning, 15-foot fadeaway jumper to lead Orleans to a 69-67 win over Hauser in the first game of the Class A semistate at Seymour. Crocker then had 10 points and two assists as the Bulldogs defeated No. 1 Clay City 50-47 to win the semistate. Crocker forced a turnover and teammate Bryce Jones made one of two free throws to break the tie with 3.2 seconds remaining.
Blake Gray, University: The 6-2 junior had 19 points on 4-for-6 shooting from the 3-point line with three assists, two steals and two rebounds in University’s 53-47 win over Parke Heritage in the Class 2A semistate championship at Washington. He also pitched in eight points, five rebounds and three assists in a 59-56 overtime win over Linton-Stockton in the semifinal game.
Elijah King, South Bend St. Joseph: The sophomore had 20 points in South Bend St. Joseph’s 115-81 win over Maconaquah in the Class 3A semistate semifinal at Logansport, then filled it up with 28 points in the Huskies’ 84-72 win over East Chicago Central in the semistate championship. King added 11 rebounds in the two wins.
Justin Kirby, Fishers: The senior and Miami of Ohio commit went for 21 points and seven rebounds as top-ranked Fishers knocked off South Bend Riley 82-46 to win the first game of the Class 4A north semistate at Elkhart. Kirby then had 16 points in Fishers’ 73-48 win over Crown Point to win the semistate championship.
Jake McGraw, Clinton Prairie: The senior led the way with 17 points, 11 rebounds and six assists in Clinton Prairie’s 62-47 win over Triton the first game of the Class A semistate in Lafayette, then had 24 points in a 73-59 win over Kouts as the Gophers reached the state finals for the first time.
Tre Singleton, Jeffersonville: The 6-9 senior and Northwestern recruit had 18 points, eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in a 63-59 comeback win over Mt. Vernon in the first game of the Class 4A semistate at New Castle. In the night game, a 56-49 win over Lawrence North, Singelton went for 16 points, seven rebounds, six assists and two blocked shots.
