Worth the money? The worrying stat for NFL teams with top paid quarterbacks
The Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles have won the last three Super Bowls, but neither Patrick Mahomes nor Jalen Hurts are top paid QBs.

If I were to tell you that Patrick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL, I doubt there would be much of an argument. He has the most Super Bowls of any active QB, he’s been voted MVP of the league twice and has led his team to five of the last six Super Bowls.
Mahomes outside of Top 12
Despite all the facts, and all the stats, and all the wins and all the rings, Patrick Mahomes is not a top paid quarterback in the league. Back in 2020 the Chiefs gunslinger signed an unprecedented 10 year deal, worth $450 million dollars. The near half a billion dollar contract was staggering, but the 10 year deal is what was really surprising in a sport where nothing is guaranteed from year to year.
Yes, $450 million dollars is a lot of money, but in today’s NFL it’s really not that much money, especially when you break it down by year. Mahomes makes an average of $45 million dollars a year, which leaves him 13th on the highest paid quarterback list.
A deadline deal: Hours before Dallas kicked off its season, it reached agreement with QB Dak Prescott on a four-year contract, $240 million extension that will make him the highest-paid player in NFL history and keep him in a Cowboys uniform for seasons to come, per sources. pic.twitter.com/ZsQmwcuoNA

Dan Prescott is currently the highest paid player not just in the league, but in NFL history when you break it down on a year-to-year average. The Cowboys quarterback signed a contract extension at the beginning of last season. His jaw dropping $60 million dollars a year, $240 million dollar contract is almost a quarter of what it cost to build Cowboy Stadium but Prescott has only won two playoff games in that time, and never been past the NFC Divisional Round.
Two Super Bowls, zero wins, a lot of millions
In fact the nine top paid quarterbacks in the league have never won the Super Bowl. Only two of them, Joe Burrow and Jared Goff have been to the Super Bowl, while two others, Tua Tagovailoa and Justin Herbert, have never won a playoff game.
While they may not have any Super Bowls, Lamar Jackson is a two-time winner of the NFL’s MVP, and Josh Allen is the reigning league MVP. Their individual performances have been brilliant, and worthy of the big bucks the fact still remains, they have yet to lift the Lombardi Trophy.
Jalen Hurts is the 10th highest paid quarterback in the league, and he is the only on in the Top 10 to have a Super Bowl ring. Right behind Hurts and in front of three time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes, sit Arizona’s Kyler Murray and Cleveland’s Deshaun Watson. Murray has no playoff wins and Deshawn Watson isn’t guaranteed to be the Browns starter at the beginning of next season.
