Mike Tomlin makes major Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback decision after Russell Wilson’s exit and Aaron Rodgers talks

PITTSBURGH Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin has reportedly seemed to decide on its quarterback situation.
The Steelers have watched the team's 2024 signal-caller, Russell Wilson, leave in free agency and are now experiencing uncertainty over Aaron Rodgers and his free agency decision.
Pittsburgh doesn't have many intriguing free-agent quarterback options, other than Rodgers, who is deciding whether he should retire or play for the franchise he met with for six hours last week.
The Steelers haven't just focused on the free-agent market, however, as they met with Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe ahead of his Pro Day.
On Thursday, Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd shared that a top NFL executive told him that the Steelers have real interest in drafting the dual-threat quarterback Milroe.
Fox Sports analyst Colin Cowherd also revealed that the executive thinks that the Steelers would take Milroe with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, even if they sign Rodgers.
“I’m told the Steelers really like Jalen Milroe. Twenty-first pick, first round. So if Aaron signs with Pittsburgh, it’s gonna become Kirk Cousins," Cowherd said.
"They’re taking a quarterback.
"If the 21st pick, Milroe’s not taken, Pittsburgh is leaning now and taking him."
The Steelers have also been linked with Ole Miss's Jaxson Dart.
Both Milroe and Dart have been projected to be Day 2 draft picks.
However, the 22-year-old Milroe had a superb Pro Day performance which could convince a team like the Steelers to take a chance on the prospect.
Milroe would be considered a project wherever he goes after a down-2024 season, posting 2,844 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
The speedy Milroe did record 726 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground, however.
If the Steelers sign Rodgers, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Milroe could be utilized for designed quarterback runs.
Pittsburgh did just that with Justin Fields last season after Russell Wilson returned to start for the team in Week 6.
Fields signed a two-year contract with the New York Jets earlier this month, while Wilson penned a one-year deal with the New York Giants this week.
The Steelers plan to return to the playoffs and go much further then they did in 2024 after losing their last five games of the season, including a Wild Card round loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
They haven't won a playoff game since 2016 and have lost their past five postseason contests.
The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft begins on April 24.
