If you’re rooting for the New England Patriots to get one of this year’s top two studs in the NFL Draft, then you want quarterbacks to come off the board early.
Most mock drafts have the Titans taking Miami quarterback Cam Ward at No. 1. According to ESPN’s Matt Miller, there’s a good reason to believe the New York Giants will be the second team in the top three to take a quarterback, specifically Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders.
“New York loving Shedeur is the worst-kept secret in the league right now,” an NFL scout told Miller.
The Giants’ quarterback situation is a bit complicated. They cut Daniel Jones last season and have since signed veterans Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson.
Wilson is one of the league’s biggest names at quarterback. However, Miller thinks that New York could still take Sanders at No. 3.
If that were to happen, things would line up perfectly for the Patriots to land a top prospect. Depending on who you ask, the top over players in this year’s draft are either Colorado receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter or Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter.
If Ward and Sanders go in the top three, the Patriots would be guaranteed to land either Hunter or Carter at No. 4.
Either one of those guys would be a jackpot draft pick. Even after signing Stefon Diggs, the Patriots need long-term help at receiver.
Meanwhile, New England finished dead last in the league in sacks last season. So even though they landed Harold Landry, Carter would provide a huge boost to the defense.
