Tyler Toffoli Scores 30th Goal in Flames’ Win Over Sharks

Calgary, Alberta — Tyler Toffoli added another milestone to his illustrious career, scoring his 30th goal of the season during the Calgary Flames‘ 5-2 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night at Scotiabank Saddledome.
This remarkable achievement marks Toffoli’s 30-goal season with his fourth different team, following his previous milestones with the Los Angeles Kings in 2015-16, the Winnipeg Jets last season, and now the Flames. The veteran forward, who is 32, has now netted 30 goals in four separate seasons, demonstrating consistent scoring prowess well into his 30s.
“He’s been outstanding for our group,” Flames head coach Ryan Warsofsky said of Toffoli. “The goal-scoring is one thing, but what he does for our dressing room as a leader… as much as Toff wants to score, he wants to win, and that’s what we need around here.”
With this goal, Toffoli joins an exclusive club of only 13 players in NHL history to score at least 30 goals for four different teams, a feat previously only achieved by Hall of Famer Mike Gartner. However, matching Gartner’s record of scoring for five teams may prove challenging. Toffoli signed a four-year, $24 million contract with the Sharks this past summer, which includes a complete no-trade clause for the first three years.
His achievement reflects not only his scoring talent but also his impact on younger teammates, especially rookies Macklin Celebrini and Will Smith, whom he has taken under his wing. “We really relied on them,” Toffoli said, highlighting the pressure on the youngsters. “They’re gonna have to do that for the rest of my time here, especially.”
The game itself was a learning experience for the Sharks, despite the loss. They have struggled with consistency this season, and alternate captain Jan Rutta commented, “We just got a little out of structure in our neutral zone forecheck.”
This match also saw the Sharks’ defense falter, allowing eight goals across their last two games. Warsofsky noted, “There’s been real growth in both their games,” while pointing to the need for improved defensive strategies moving forward.
For the Sharks, the pressure is on to turn close games into wins as they look to build a strong future with their young talent paired with experienced veterans such as Toffoli. As the team continues to develop, fans will be hoping for stronger performances in the seasons to come.
