NEWPORT County AFC spent the fourth lowest total on agent fees in the Football League over the last year.

The Exiles spent £ 42,954 between February 2, 2024 and February 3 of this year, up from £31,296 for the previous 12 months.

They were ranked 21st of the current clubs in the fourth tier with only Bromley, (£27,520), Accrington (£28,366), and Crewe (£39,569) beneath them.

That was despite busy recruitment drive that saw 24 players signed between the end of last season and the last transfer window closing.

The EFL have revealed that there were 'football agent transactions' for Aaron Wildig's new contract and deals for teenagers Nelson Sanca and Jac Norris plus the arrivals of Anthony Glennon, Bobby Kamwa, Cameron Antwi, Ciaran Brennan, Courtney Baker-Richardson, Hamzad Kargbo, Jacob Carney, Jaden Warner, Joe Thomas, Josh Martin, Kai Whitmore, Keenan Patten, Matt Baker, Michael Spellman, Oliver Greaves, Tom Davies plus youth player Dan Barton.

The biggest spenders for the period were Fleetwood (£284,407) after they suffered League One relegation, with the Cod Army now sitting mid-table.

Pace-setting Port Vale, with £262,177, were close behind after they tried to avoid the drop to League Two and then prepared what looks set to be a successful bid to bounce straight back.

Relegated Forest Green and Sutton also spent more than County along with fellow National League clubs Barnet, Oldham, Southend and York.

The Exiles’ figure was £22,511 in 2023 (the lowest in League Two) and £15,150 in 2022 (second lowest).
