On weekday mornings, Nevada Sports Net will recap three big headlines of the day in its Morning Download. Read below for today's topics.
Super Bowl-winning coach Jon Gruden flexed his supreme knowledge of Nevada football in a video posted on social media yesterday. Gruden got a care package of Wolf Pack swag from the school. During the 3-minute, 13-second video in which he impressively pronounced Nevada several different ways, he name dropped Chris Ault, Colin Kaepernick, Nate Burleson, Marion Motley, Brock Marion, Brandon Marshall, Tony Zendejas, Romeo Doubs, Doug Betters, Joel Bitonio and Dick the Bruiser. "This place is dear to my heart," Gruden said of Nevada. "I love this program." Gruden is now working for Barstool after resigning as the Las Vegas Raiders' head coach in October 2021 after emails he wrote that included racist, misogynistic and anti-gay language were leaked. You can watch the video below.
The Nevada women's tennis team plays for a share of the Mountain West title today, although the Wolf Pack will need help from rival UNLV. Nevada hosts New Mexico on senior day at noon at McArthur Tennis Center. A Wolf Pack win coupled with UNLV beating San Diego State in a match that starts at 1 p.m. would create a three-way tie atop the MW standings between Nevada, SDSU and UNLV on the last day of the regular season. The Wolf Pack would get the No. 1 seed at next week's MW Tournament if it ends in a three-way tie as Nevada has beaten SDSU and UNLV this season. Nevada is aiming for its first conference title in women's tennis since 1992. Here are some other things on the line for Wolf Pack athletics today.
Kennedy Lee, who would have been Nevada's top returning player if she came back to the Wolf Pack this season, is transferring to San Diego State. Lee entered the portal a month ago and announced on social media this week she is headed to the Aztecs. A 6-foot forward, Lee averaged 11.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game last season, which was cut short after nine contests due to injury. She can use that as a medical redshirt season and maintain two years of eligibility. Lee shot 51.3 percent from the field, including 45 percent from three, last season. She joins a SDSU team that won the MW Tournament last year and played in its first NCAA Tournament since 2012.
