One of the biggest talking points in the 2025 NFL Draft season surrounds the father-son relationship between Shedeur Sanders and Deion Sanders. Shedeur Sanders is projected to be a top-50, if not, top-20, top-10 (?) draft pick in the coming days. However, Shedeur is not the only son of Deion’s in this year’s draft. Shilo Sanders, a projected undrafted free agent in this year’s draft is also the son of the Pro-Football Hall of Famer turned University of Colorado Head Coach.
However, Shedeur, Shilo, and Deion are not the only family connections in this year’s draft. Two former Seattle Seahawks players are related to some prospects in this year’s draft as well. More specifically, two former, recent Seahawks safeties.
Quandre Diggs is cousins with quarterback, Cam Ward. Meanwhile, Kam Chancellor is the uncle of wide receiver, Keandre Lambert-Smith.
Cam Ward played at Washington State from 2022-2023, at the same time that Diggs was playing for the Seahawks on the other side of Washington. Prior to Washington State, Ward started his career at Incarnate Word and finished his collegiate career at Miami after transferring there in 2024. Ward is projected to be the first overall pick to the Tennessee Titans in the next few days. This has become the worst-kept secret this draft year. So much so that the Titans official website is already writing articles dedicated to Ward, one of those being about how close Diggs and his cousin Ward are. With it being very likely Ward will follow his cousin, Diggs (who played for the Titans in 2024) to Nashville, he surely will not be returning to the state of Washington to play as a member of the Seattle Seahawks.
Though Ward surely will not be a Seahawk, Keandre Lambert-Smith potentially could. Lambert-Smith played most of his collegiate career at Penn State from 2020-2023 before transferring to Auburn for his last season. The 6’ 1”, 190-pound wide-out is projected to go on the third day of the draft. Considering the Seahawks need for another wide receiver, plus their draft capital on day three (one 4th, two 5ths , two 7ths ), Lambert-Smith could potentially follow his uncle to Seattle. If he does, Chancellor, who still talks to Lambert-Smith regularly, could show him around Seattle, and the Virginia Mason Athletic Center.
One last Seahawks family connection in the year’s draft is not that of a former player, but will surely be a name that you will recognize. Ohio State, tight end, Gee Scott Jr. has already been linked to the Seahawks, having visited Seattle on their local pro-day. If that name sounds familiar, that is because Gee Scott Sr. has been a regular media presence/radio host for Seattle over the last decade-plus (from Driving with Gee to the more recent KJ All Day podcasts with KJ Wright). Field Gulls has brought up Gee Scott Jr. as an option that Seattle could look at as an undrafted free agent, potentially at fullback.
Whether Lambert-Smith or Scott Jr. end up in Seattle is hard to tell. However, Seahawks fans will be able to root for these two (plus Ward in Tennessee) as they are still connected to the Seahawks through their cousin (Diggs), uncle (Chancellor), and father (Scott Sr.).
