Delmar native Dante Trader Jr. selected by Miami Dolphins in fifth round of NFL Draft

Delmar native and former University of Maryland football player Dante Trader Jr. has been selected by the Miami Dolphins in the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Dolphins selected Trader, Jr. in the fifth round of the draft on Saturday, using the 155th pick to bring in the safety from the University of Maryland.
Trader Jr. played high school football at Delmar for two years, where he won a state championship before transferring to finish his high school career at the McDonogh School in Baltimore. Trader was also a star lacrosse player, and played college football at the University of Maryland, where he was a dual-sport athlete, playing both lacrosse and football.
Trader grabbed five career interceptions during his time playing for the Terrapins, and recorded 190 career tackles. During the pre-draft process, Trader received high praise from ESPN's NFL Draft Analyst Mel Kiper, who said, "Dante Trader Jr., pound-for-pound, was one of the best players in the Big Ten. And I think for Maryland, for the Terrapins, he was a guy that screamed, 'look at me, why am I not getting more attention?' And he's going to get it. There's no question that he's going to get it in these months leading up to the draft."
