Former Utah football and basketball player Caleb Lohner was drafted by the Denver Broncos with the No. 25 pick in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday.
Lohner was the first and only former Ute to be selected to a team this year. He spent one season with Utah after transferring from Baylor in 2024. He officially made the switch to play basketball to football after considering the change for several years.
In one season as a tight end, the Flower Mound, Texas, native played in 12 games for the Utes, catching four passes — all of which went for touchdowns — as well as a reception for a two-point conversion.
The senior was also a weapon for Utah on special teams, blocking one field goal attempt in 2024.
After the football season, Lohner joined the Runnin’ Utes before the end of Big 12 play. He averaged 2.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game, while shooting 31.3% from the field.
With his 6-foot-8 height and athleticism, Lohner’s intangibles make him an intriguing prospect at the tight end position. He’s the ninth Ute tight end to be drafted since Dalton Kincaid was selected by the Buffalo Bills in 2023.
