High school roundup for May 6, 2025: Plum baseball clinches outright section title with 1-hit shutout

Michael Tedrick threw a one-hit shutout with four strikeouts to propel Plum to a 3-0 victory over Latrobe on Tuesday, clinching sole possession of the Section 1-5A baseball title.
Dan Macioce and Ryan Lafferty each doubled and knocked in a run, and Max Vollmer tripled for the Mustangs (17-2, 11-1). Joseph Razza had the lone hit for the Wildcats (14-6, 8-4).
Allderdice 6, Central Catholic 1 – Landon Blank went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and Satyan Chickering drove in two runs to lead Allderdice (13-6) to a nonsection win over Central Catholic (6-12).
Burgettstown 12, Fort Cherry 11 – Brian Charles hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs, Blake Neal drove in two runs and Sam Elich doubled and plated a run as Burgettstown (12-2, 10-1) outslugged Fort Cherry (12-5, 9-2) in Section 1-2A. Colton Temple clubbed two home runs and had four RBIs and Ryan Huey doubled and plated three runs for the Rangers. Matt Bredel got the win for the Blue Devils.
Burrell 2, Highlands 0 – Winning pitcher Brayden Mell went seven innings, giving up one hit while striking out seven in a nonsection win for Burrell (14-8, 2-2). Parker Logut had two hits and David Kleckner doubled and drove in a run for the Bucs. Sal Barbarino had a hit for Highlands (6-11, 2-8).
Deer Lakes 8, Yough 5 – Ben Shurina went 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs, Anthony Smith clubbed a solo homer and Brady Plummer doubled and knocked in a run as Deer Lakes (9-6, 8-4) defeated Yough (2-14, 2-10) in Section 3-3A. Raidon Kuroda homered and drove in two runs for the Cougars. Noah Shurina had an RBI and Andrew Connelly got the win for the Lancers
Greensburg Central Catholic 19, Mapletown 0 – Tyler Samide threw a four-inning no-hitter with 10 strikeouts to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (13-2, 10-1) past Mapletown (2-13, 0-11) in Section 1-A. Jackson McMullen hit a three-run home run, Anthony Grippo went 4 for 4 with two doubles and Michael Kiss drove in a pair of runs for the Centurions.
Jefferson-Morgan 1, Jeannette 0 – Drew Adams hit a walk-off single while pitcher Brayden Ellsworth got the win as Jefferson-Morgan (8-9, 5-6) squeaked out a Section 1-A victory over Jeannette (12-3, 8-3), eliminating the Jayhawks from playoff contention and clinching a spot for Avella. Kenny Himes had two hits and pitcher Wyatt Schaeffer gave up an unearned run and struck out eight in 6⅔ innings for the Jayhawks.
Keystone Oaks 15, Washington 4 – Ian Bickel doubled and drove in four runs, Anthony Liebro tripled and finished with three RBIs and pitcher Nathan Rohe got the win as Keystone Oaks (8-8, 5-6) cruised to a Section 4-3A win. Caleb Patton tripled and plated a run for Washington (4-14, 1-10).
Mohawk 3, Hickory 2 – Dillan Deal smacked a walk-off single to lift Mohawk (10-8) past Hickory in a nonsection matchup. Winning pitcher Jackson Chapman and Vinny Pezuolo each hit a solo home run for the Warriors. Luke Lewis went 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs for Hickory.
Neshannock 2, New Brighton 1 – Winning pitcher Hunter Wilson drove in a run as Neshannock (13-4, 9-3) edged New Brighton (9-8, 7-5) in Section 2-2A. Carter Jackson doubled and knocked in a run and Casey Bloom doubled for the Lions.
OLSH 4, Riverview 0 – Dean Douglass went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs and winning pitcher Thomas Medwig struck out six on his way to a complete-game shutout as OLSH (12-6, 10-1) stifled Riverview (12-4, 9-2) in Section 3-2A. Rex Roberts had two hits for the Raiders. Gino Williams doubled and plated a run for the Chargers.
Seneca Valley 14, Brooke (W. Va.) 4 – Danny Drennan and Mason Fisher hit a triple apiece and Wes Conville doubled to lead Seneca Valley (12-6) to a nonsection win at PNC Park. Ty Sperringer hit a single for Brooke (W. Va.).
Serra Catholic 15, Sewickley Academy 3 – Tyler Skaggs went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs and Max Black drove in a run to power Serra Catholic (15-3, 8-2) to a Section 3-A win. Nolan Donnelly tripled and plated a run for Sewickley Academy (4-11, 3-6). Bodi Rieger got the win for the Eagles.
Shaler 6, Mars 0 – Colby Weber struck out six as he pitched a complete-game shutout while Ben Yeckel hit a solo home run to lead Shaler (13-4, 8-1) to a Section 3-5A win. Max Saban knocked in a run for the Titans. Daniel Murray and Hayden Reisinger each doubled for Mars (7-10, 3-6).
South Side 5, Brentwood 0 – Winning pitcher Carter Wilson struck out 12 in a complete-game no-hitter as South Side (10-5, 8-3) dropped Brentwood (5-13, 3-9) in Section 3-2A. RJ Fischer tripled and knocked in three runs while Andrew Madeja and Tyler Staab each drove in a run for the Rams.
Trinity 9, Moon 6 – Matthew Robaugh hit a home run and drove in two runs while Luke Poland picked up a win as Trinity (9-8, 5-6) defeated Moon (5-11, 4-7) in Section 2-5A. Angelo Fachet doubled twice and knocked in two runs and Connor Kunkle doubled and plated a run for the Tigers.
West Allegheny 5, Fox Chapel 2 – Mason Gass, Jonah Buglak and Zac Lucas each drove in a run while Brandon Boyce picked up the win as West Allegheny (8-10, 3-7) defeated Fox Chapel (13-5, 6-4) in Section 3-5A. Gino Pototo knocked in a run and Kris Bandurski doubled for the Foxes.
West Mifflin 7, Belle Vernon 5 – Chase Maggio and Eli Kurta had a double and two RBIs apiece for West Mifflin (15-5, 10-2) in a Section 2-4A win. Parker Lind and Alonzo Wade doubled for Belle Vernon (14-3, 9-3).
Winchester Thurston 3, Union 1 – Ben Kogan drove in two runs, Alex Staresnic brought home a run and winning pitcher Lucas Picher fanned nine as Winchester Thurston (10-5, 9-4) beat Union (7-8, 7-6) in Section 2-A. Maddox Ryhal doubled twice and drove in a run while pitcher Jalen Peace struck out nine for the Scotties.

Beaver 13, Central Valley 6 – Olivia Peabody went 3 for 5 with five RBIs, Abby Hojdila had a double, home run and four RBIs and Rhiannon Rabassi and Bridget Mayo hit a home run apiece to lead Beaver (13-5, 8-4) to a 3-4A win. London Banks hit a home run and Sonya Householder doubled for Central Valley (6-9, 4-8).
Butler 9, Kiski Area 1 – Shylee Karenbauer hit a home run and Lily Vicari hit three singles for Butler (4-16) in a nonsection win. Alyssa Perona hit two home runs and Dakota Rainey hit two doubles for Kiski Area (5-11).
Canon-McMillan 9, Bethel Park 4 – Skylah Steban went 3 for 4 with a double, home run and two RBIs and Hailey Swope and Sophie Carl had a double and two RBIs apiece to lead Canon-McMillan (12-8) to a nonsection win. Courtney Roberts hit a home run for Bethel Park (9-9).
Carmichaels 6, West Greene 1 – Bailey Barnyak struck out 11 and allowed two hits in five innings as Carmichaels (14-0, 10-0) clinched the outright Section 2-A title. Marissa Tharp singled and scored for West Greene (13-2, 8-2). Carys McConnell had a double, home run and four RBIs and Ali Jacobs hit two doubles for the Mighty Mikes.
Chartiers Valley 13, Montour 1 – Delaney O’Connor went 2 for 3 with a double, home run and four RBIs, Ava Dunlap had a double and four RBIs and Taylor Walsh tripled to lead Chartiers Valley (10-6, 7-3) to a Section 3-5A win over Montour (2-12, 0-9).
Fox Chapel 18, Peters Township 7 – Summer Burkhart had two doubles and four RBIs and Ella Eisney had a double, home run and three RBIs to lead Fox Chapel (11-6) to a nonsection win. Lucy Wicker went 2 for 3 with three RBIs for Peters Township (3-14).
Jeannette 15, Ellis School 0 – Grace Stein went 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs and six RBIs and Leah DeFelice had two doubles and four RBIs to lead Jeannette (11-4, 10-1) to a Section 3-A win. Elyse Brennan hit a single for Ellis School (0-11, 0-10).
Laurel 7, Knoch 4 – Lexi Krol went 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Mayci Lang went 2 for 3 with an RBI for Laurel (14-4) in anonsection win. Grace Hensch hit a home run and Brooke Bastin doubled for Knoch (17-2).
Ligonier Valley 7, Yough 6; Yough 14, Ligonier Valley 3 – Ligonier Valley (5-10, 5-5 and Yough (6-9, 3-9) split a Section 1-3A doubleheader, eliminating the Cougars from playoff contention. In the first game, Maggie Peters hit a two-run game-winning single in the seventh for Ligonier Valley. Adoria Waldier hit a home run and Payton Jenkins tripled for Yough . Elyse Witcoski hit a home run and Sydnee Foust and Natalie Bizup doubled for the Rams. In the second game, Eva Trayter went 2 for 2 with a triple and four RBIs and Brooke Kowalski went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs for the Cougars. Marlee Miller hit a double for the Rams.
Montour 15, Upper St. Clair 3 – Danielle Terpack had a double and three RBIs, Jade Schrenker tripled and Ava Bartel doubled for Montour (3-12, 1-9) in a Section 3-5A win. Rachel Scharrer hit two doubles for Upper St. Clair (7-8, 2-8).
Neshannock 11, Mohawk 0 – Miley Anderson went 4 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs and Jaidon Nogay hit two doubles and drove in three runs to lead Neshannock (17-0) to a nonsection win. Alivia Hare hit a single for Mohawk (12-5). Winning pitcher Addy Frye threw a five-inning one-hitter and struck out six for the Lancers.
New Castle 8, Ellwood City 6 – Olivia Hood hit two home runs and drove in four runs and Angie Gallo doubled to lead New Castle (9-10) to a nonsection win. Riley Prestopine hit a home run for Ellwood City (10-7).
North Catholic 18, Ambridge 1 – Clare Kotwica went 2 for 4 with a home run and five RBIs, Kennedy Brown went 3 for 3 with a double and four RBIs and Natalia Rushak homered for North Catholic (8-7, 5-6) in a Section 3-4A win. Caylin Fedora singled and drove in a run for Ambridge (2-13, 0-12).
Pine-Richland 27, Armstrong 20 – Iliana Aggelou went 3 for 5 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs, Calle Henne hit two home runs and Catie Scholl hit a double and triple to lead Pine-Richland (13-7) to a nonsection win. Isabela Prazenica had a double, a home run, a grand slam and seven RBIs and Delaney Smith drove in three runs for Armstrong (13-7).
Plum 10, Deer Lakes 0 – Mackenzie Marotta threw a five-inning no-hitter and struck out five for Plum (14-5) in a nonsection win over Deer Lakes (7-12). Marotta went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs and Danielle Pici doubled and drove in two runs for the Mustangs.
South Fayette 9, Chartiers Valley 3 – Maddie Cavenaugh hit a grand slam and Brenna Dunn and Evie Vuono hit a triple apiece for South Fayette (12-5, 7-3) in a Section 3-5A win. Delaney O’Connor had a double and two RBIs for Chartiers Valley (10-6, 7-3).
South Side 4, Sewickley Academy 3 – Halina Matijevich hit a double in the eighth inning to score the winning run for South Side (10-7, 7-3) in Section 1-A victory. Keira Church hit a double and Sanaa Grant hit two singles for Sewickley Academy (10-4, 7-3). Madison Morrow and Emma DeLong homered for the Rams.
Trinity 16, Baldwin 6 – Ally Krenzelak went 4 for 5 and Nina Christy had two doubles and three RBIs to lead Trinity (11-9, 9-3) to a Section 4-5A win. Ryley Shaw hit a home run and Teaghan Scanlon doubled for Baldwin (13-4, 9-3).
Union 17, Mars 0 – Emily Ross and Olivia Benedict hit a home run apiece and Korynne Shannon doubled and drove in two runs to lead Union (16-1) to a nonsection win. Laura Craska hit a single for Mars (3-16).
West Mifflin 6, Frazier 5 – Caleigh Ignat went 3 for 4 with two doubles, Samantha Tomko tripled and Mia Bey had a double and three RBIs for West Mifflin (13-6) in a nonsection win. Grace Vaughn hit a triple for Frazier (13-3).
Girls lacrosse
Mars 19, Freeport 1 – Katie Blake and Anna McGrath scored four goals apiece, Hailey Long added three goals and Tess McGrath scored a pair to lead Mars to a Section 2-2A win.
Trinity 6, Armstrong 5 – Taylor Phillips and Myah Agmon scored two goals each and Carolina McClain and Georgia Poach added a goal apiece for Trinity in a nonsection win over Armstrong.
Boys volleyball
Canon-McMillan 3, Upper St. Clair 0 – Landon Patterson had eight kills and Justin Peters collected five kills, 15 assists and seven aces to send Canon-McMillan to a Section 1-3A win. Nolan Rosing had 11 digs and Aydin Winkelblech handed out five assists for the Big Macs.
