Eagles get EOAC share

HANOVERTON — The United Golden Eagles baseball team has had no peer in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference this season.

Led by Wyatt Swanson’s triple, double and single with two RBIs, United clinched a share of the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference title with a 17-1 win over Wellsville in five innings Friday.

It is United’s second EOAC title in four years and sixth baseball league title overall.

The Eagles went wild in the second inning, scoring 11 runs. No. 9 hitter Tyler Wood scored two runs in the inning after a single and a walk..

Cavan Jackson totaled three hits and three RBIs. Kadin Schonauer added two hits and an RBI from the leadoff spot. Jason Pratt had two hits and two RBIs, while Parker Newburn and Mason Everly had doubles. Quentin Taylor got the win with nine strikeouts and three walks.

United is 17-5 and 10-0 in the league — outscoring its league opponents a combined 122-10. The Eagles are two games up on Columbiana and East Palestine with just a pair of games next week. They will host Columbiana on Monday and play at Columbiana on Wednesday.

The Eagles scored three runs in the first inning on consecutive hits by Jackson and Swanson and three walks. Then they sent 17 batters to the plate in the big second inning.

Austin Watkins led Wellsville with a single and double. Watkins was also the losing pitcher with 14 earned runs, a strikeout and eight walks in two innings.

Wellsville is 3-17 and 1-11 in the league. The Tigers host Chaney on Monday and then close out the regular season at home against Malvern on Thursday.

Crestview 6, Beaver 5

CALCUTTA — Crestview held off Beaver Local for a 6-5 win on Friday in baseball action.

The Rebels managed to get the job done with just four hits with one being a double from Wyatt Ervin.

Logan Neff got the win with two strikeouts and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Aiden Dray had two hits and two RBIs for the Beavers, while A.J. Bowser had two hits and an RBI.

Andre Wiegand took the loss with five strikeouts and a walk in six innings.

Beaver Local (4-15) hosts Lisbon on Wednesday.

Crestview is 8-9 and is at Newton Falls on Monday.

Lisbon 9, Jackson-Milton 4

NORTH JACKSON –Ashton Hinchliffe, Marc Moore and Logan Sturgeon all had two hits in Lisbon’s 9-4 win over Jackson-Milton on Friday.

Nick Peruchetti added three RBIs.

Brady Carpenter was the winning pitcher with six strikeouts and two walks in three innings.

Lisbon is 9-7 and hosts Leetonia on Monday.

East Palestine 4, Girard 2

UNITY — Cale Moraski was sharp with seven strikeouts and only one walk in an East Palestine 4-2 win over Girard on Friday at Ace of Diamonds.

Phoneix Marvin added a two-run homer and a double for the Bulldogs, 14-7.

Kyler Bourne had two hits.

East Palestine hosts Southern on Monday.

Canfield 14, Columbiana 0

CANFIELD — It was all Canfield in a 14-0 Cardinal win over Columbiana on Friday.

Noah Anzevino got the win with a strikeout and a walk in two innings.

Rocco Mediate had Columbiana’s lone hit.

Sam Inboden took the loss with two strikeouts and four walks in three innings.

Columbiana (10-11) hosts Western Reserve on Saturday.

Austintown 8, West Branch 7

BELOIT — West Branch hit into a double play with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh as Austintown Fitch survived with an 8-7 win on Friday.

Boston Mulinix had a hit and RBI for the Warriors, while Maddox Coleman had a hit and two RBIs.

Jeremiah Thomas took the loss with two walks and two strikeouts in three innings of work.

West Branch (10-12) is at Field on Saturday.

Oak Glen 7, Steubenville CC 6

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Lucas Zoellers scored a run on an error to tally a 7-6 walk-off Oak Glen win over Steubenville Catholic Central on Friday.

Zoellers also had a triple in the contest.

Christian Chappell added two hits and an RBI. Sam Jenkins had two hits as well.

Josh Maher got the win with no strikeouts and no walks in two innings of relief.
