Just call him Rookie of the Year.
Nick Saban, who carved out a legendary career as the head football coach at Alabama, winning six National Championships, now has a Sports Emmy in his trophy case.
Saban, when asked about the Emmy nomination at the Nick's Kids Golf Tournament Tuesday at Old Overton, cracked a joke.
"It must not have been a good year for people for the Emmys," Saban said.
Well, guess what Nick? You have yourself an Emmy. Saban won Tuesday night in the category of Outstanding Personality/Emerging On-Air Talent for his work on ESPN College GameDay, his first full season as a college football analyst.
The other nominees for the award included Prime Video’s Ryan Fitzpatrick and Richard Sherman, ESPN’s Jason Kelce and CBS’ Jay Wright.
"A lot of people helped contribute to learning how to do it," Saban said. "I certainly appreciate them and thank them for that. We've got a good team of people who've had lots of experience who I think helped me fit into the program and hopefully we've created some value of some sort."
