
Other news media is reporting at 8 p.m. Sunday that the body of a Delaware County man who was a ranger at Tyler State Park near Newtown, Bucks County, was found.
NewtownPaNow.com is reporting that state officials confirmed the recovery of the remains and identified the employee as Alec Campbell. His exact residence was not provided. Tyler State Park will remain closed Monday due to Campbell’s death, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Pennsylvania State Police troopers were notified of the missing DCNR ranger about 12:30 p.m. Friday after his kayak capsized in the Neshaminy Creek, state police said.
NewtownPaNow.com also is reporting that Pennsylvania State Police Troop M’s Criminal Investigation Unit is leading the probe into the incident, while the Bucks County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
And, “We are deeply saddened by the death of Alec Campbell, a dedicated member of our Pennsylvania state park staff,” said Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn. “I’ve spoken with his wife and family, and on behalf of all of us at DCNR, I want them to know they are in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. Our hearts go out to them, as well as to Alec’s friends, loved ones, and colleagues.”
A number of agencies from Bucks County responded to the park to assist with the search efforts. These included PSP Aviation, PSP Maritime Unit, Northampton Township Fire Department, Newtown Emergency Services Department, New Hope Fire Department, Lingohocken Fire Department, Upper Makefield Fire Company, and the Bucks County Special Operations Dive Team.
Earlier reporting said that authorities’ work at the park quickly turned into a recovery operation, and that the creek was swollen and flowing rapidly on Friday in the wake of heavy rains from the two prior days.
