NFL star Antonio Cromartie welcomes his 14th child despite vasectomy

Congrats are in order for NFL star Antonio Cromartie, who just welcomed his 14th child — despite having had a vasectomy after baby No. 11.

“We are 100 percent done! Absolutely, positively done with having kids,” Antonio’s wife, Terricka Cromartie, told Us magazine on Thursday. “We’ve been blessed with these guys, but adding to it, I think, would kill us both!”

The baby girl, named Jhett Paxton, was born Aug. 30 and weighed 8 pounds, 2 ounces, according to Us. She’s the sixth child for the married couple of nine years and the 14th for Cromartie, who fathered eight other children from previous relationships.

In 2013, the New York Post reported that the former New York Jets cornerback underwent a vasectomy in 2011, after the birth of his 10th child. The paper quoted a passage from the book Collision Low Crossers: A Year Inside the Turbulent World of NFL Football, by Nicholas Dawidoff, which read, “Walk-throughs the day before the game were uninteresting to most players, but not to Cromartie, who could never spend enough time on a football field. Cro had recently submitted to a vasectomy — ‘I got snipped,’ as he told [Dawidoff]. Eric Smith surveyed the jubilant, excised cornerback and said fondly, ‘I wish it had calmed him down!’”

After Terricka delivered a set of twins on Mother’s Day in 2016, she told Page Six that she planned on getting her “tubes tied.”

Twitter reacted to the news of the family’s latest addition with incredulity and humor.

According to Planned Parenthood, vasectomy — a surgical procedure that entails cutting tubes in the scrotum so that sperm can’t be released into the semen — is nearly 100 percent effective for preventing pregnancy. Even when a vasectomy is reversed, there is no guarantee that a man can father a child again.

The odds of a woman becoming pregnant after the man has a vasectomy are less than 1 percent, reports the American Pregnancy Association. So the Cromarties are certainly defying those odds again and again.

Cromartie, who famously struggled to recall the names of all his children in a 2015 online video, will appear on a Nov. 9 reality show called The Cromarties, debuting on the USA channel. “We finally found the project that will showcase our reality in a real light, showcase our children, and show how our family really functions,” Terricka told Us.

When asked whether there would be drama between her and her husband’s exes, she said, “Not this season. We talk about our blended family, but that’ll be an issue for next season.”
