NFL Week 3 live blog: Colts fall 20-16 to Eagles

FINAL: Eagles 20, Colts 16

Andrew Luck completes 25-of-40 passes for 164 yards and a touchdown. Half of those yards were in the fourth quarter. Luck led the Colts with 33 yards rushing.

The Colts defense did a lot of bending without breaking until the Eagles 11-minute-plus winning drive that ended with Wendell Smallwood's 4-yard TD.

The Colts sacked Carson Wentz five times and had two takeaways.

Time of possession: Eagles 40:20, Colts 19:40.

Adam Vinatieri had three field goals, tying Morten Andersen's NFL record of 565.

 

Fourth quarter 

Jacoby Brissett in for the Hail Mary. Incomplete.

43 seconds left and the Colts have the ball at their 11.

Colts force a punt  with 53 seconds left but they use all their timeouts.

Luck sacked at the 20 on fourth down with 1:13 left. Colts have all of their timeouts available  on defense.

Luck overthrows Hilton in the left side of the end zone.

Erik Swoope gains 6 yards, gets to the Eagles 4 with 1:24 left. Last  Eagles timeout.

Luck incomplete to Ebron in the end zone.

Hines for 4 yards. Colts are on the Eagles 11. Philly timeout with 1:38 left.

Luck to Hilton for 8 yards.

2-minute warning.

Luck to Ryan Grant for 22 yards. Luck goes over 100 passing yards for the game. Colts get a first down at the Philly 23.

Luck overthrows Eric Ebron deep.

Pass  interference against T.Y. Hilton. Ball at Eagles 45.

Andrew Luck to Nyheim Hines for 12 yards.

Colts start from their 25.

Wendell Smallwood scores from 2 yards with 3:02 to go. Drive goes 17 plays, 75 yards and 11 minutes, 18 secondsEagles 20, Colts 16

Philadelphia drives inside the Colts 10. 

Eagles convert on third down.

Holding on the Colts on fourth down extends the Eagles drive. 6:20 to go.

Darius Leonard snuffs out that play and sacks Carson Wentz. 

Colts are starting to pile up penalties. They have 8 and the Eagles 9.

Darius Leonard sacks Carson Wentz. Leonard is in on 10 tackles.

Adam Vinatieri ties Morten Andersen with 565 career field goals on a 27-yarder with 14:20 left. Colts 16, Eagles 13

 

Third quarter

Margus Hunt taps the ball from Carson Wentz's hand and recovers the fumble at the Eagles 13.

 

Malik Hooker deflects a long pass. If he doesn't tip it, it's an Eagles touchdown.

Eagles get the ball at their 19. Philly has bobbled many punts, but haven't lost any.

Colts get the ball at their 25 and go 3-and-out.

Jake Elliott's 24-yard field goal with 2:50 left makes it Colts 13, Eagles 13. More bending without breaking.

Clayton Geathers breaks up the third-down pass to Zach Ertz at the goal line.

Wentz hits Zach Ertz for 28 yards.

"Arizona here!" - Eagles QB Carson Wentz at the line.

Adam Vinatieri hits from 31 yards with 8:23 left. He's 36 points shy of Morten Andresen for the NFL career lead. He's one short of Andersen for career field goals. Colts 13, Eagles 10

Andrew Luck's pass to Eric Ebron in the end zone is broken up.

Anthony Walker intercepts Carson Wentz and returns it to the Philadelphia 17.

Adam Vinatieri hits from 35 yards with 9:41 left. He inches closer to Morten Andersen for the NFL career lead. Colts 10, Eagles 10

Chester Rogers can't quite hold on to the Andrew Luck pass in the end zone.

Jordan Wilkins converts the fourth-and-2 on a sweep left to the Eagles 23.

Andrew Luck hits T.Y. Hilton for 29 yards.

Colts get it at their 34 after the punt.

Jabaal Sheard bats the pass, and the Eagles go 3-and-out.

Eagles start with the ball at their 17 and the rain appears to be falling harder.

Halftime

Colts big plays: a 37-yard pass interference call. A 33-yard Andrew Luck scramble. Some bend and don't break defense. 

Colts have 67 total offensive yards, while the Eagles have 230.

Still, the Colts are in it, trailing 10-7.

Andrew Luck is 10-of-16 for 35 yards passing. Carson Wentz is 14-of-20 for 165.

 

Second quarter

Kemoko Turay sacks Carson Wentz.

Carson Wentz evades Jabaal Sheard  and runs for a first down to convert a third-down in the last minute.

Joe Haeg returns.

Jake Elliott makes a 33-yard field goal with 3:05 left. Eagles 10, Colts 7

Margus Hunt is a force for a couple of plays.

Carson Wentz hits a wide-open Wendell Smallwood for a 34-yard gain inside the Colts 10.

Eagles get the ball at their 10 after the Rigoberto Sanchez punt. 9:45 left.

Joe Haeg leaves the game with an injury. Denzelle Good makes his season debut.

Andrew Luck on the scramble and gains 33 yards. Colts now have 38 rushing yards. It's also the Colts' longest gain from scrimmage this season.

Eagles punt and the Colts get the ball at their 22.

A Colts defensive holding penalty negates a sack by Jihad Ward. He's No. 51. Not John Simon, who used to be No. 51.

 

First quarter

Andrew Luck hits Ryan Grant for a 5-yard touchdown against good coverage with 24 seconds left. Grant makes two good plays inside the 10. Colts 7, Eagles 7

Pass interference works for 37 yards. Colts get it at the Eagles 15.

Jake Elliott misses a 55-yard field goal try. Colts take over.

Wendell Smallwood is running well against the Colts. 

Eagles start at their 29.

Colts go nowhere and punt again.

Colts are called for setting up a wedge on their kickoff return and start from their 7.

Carson Wentz hits Dallas Goedert for a 13-yard touchdown with 7:10 left. Wentz is 5-of-7 for 55 yards on the opening drive. Question: Why would a North Dakota State guy pass to a South Dakota State guy? Eagles 7, Colts 0

Ryan Kelly, off a tip from Jordan Wilkins, gets the catch for -4 yards.

Joe Haeg's illegal procedure at right tackle hurts.

Offensive lineman Denzelle Good is active. Anthony Castonzo, Jack Doyle, Denico Autry, Hassan Ridgeway, Quincy Wilson and Marlon Mack are not.
