Local Notes:  Trad night, school football, Scór and family fun walk

The monthly trad night in Mulvihill’s, Castlerea, will take place on Sunday, January 26th starting at 8.30 p.m. Terry McGowan, Denis Igoe, William Cornwall, Kevin Igoe (Jnr), Tom Walsh and Patsy Finan and many more fine musicians will be performing, so come along and enjoy a great night’s entertainment. All are welcome.

GOLF LOTTO 

The winning bonus ball number in Castlerea Golf Club’s lotto for January 15th was 45. Winners of this week’s lotto were Marie Baggot, Daire Silke, Maureen Coyne, John Walsh and Eimear O Meara. Each receive €100.

HOLY HOUR of PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS 

 There will be a Holy Hour of Eucharistic Adoration to pray for vocations on Friday, January 24th, (the Feast of St Francis de Sales), from 8 to 9 p.m. in St Patrick's Church, Castlerea. Please come and join in an hour of prayer, music, rosary, vespers (evening prayer) and compline (night prayer).

THANKS 

Prior to Christmas, St. Paul’s and St. Anne’s National Schools performed Christmas carols to raise funds for their schools. Both schools performed on separate days and put on a great performance and are a credit to their teachers and parents. The principals and staff in both schools would like to thank all who subscribed so generously to their bucket collection.

LATE MRS PATRICIA FLYNN 

The death occurred peacefully on Saturday, January 11th, in the tender and loving care of the staff at Roscommon Hospice, of Mrs. Patricia (Pat) Flynn (nee Coleman) of Cashel, Ballinlough and formerly of The Square, Kilkee, County Clare. She was predeceased by her sisters, Mary and Pauline; brothers, Patrick, Vincent and Joseph. She was a very kind person and a good neighbour. Her husband Bob ran the Mace Supermarket, The Square, Castlerea, for many years and was a good businessman. She will be sadly missed by her beloved husband, Bob; sons, Robert (Limerick), and Ray (Ballinlough); her adored grandson, Huge; sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbours and friends. Her remains were removed from Gaynor’s Funeral Home, Castlerea, on Monday evening to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Ballinlough and following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr. Joe Feeney, burial took place in Ballinlough Cemetery. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

LATE MRS SUSAN COLLINS 

 The death occurred peacefully at Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, surrounded by her loving family, on Monday, January 6th of Mrs Susan Collins (nee Farrelly), Cloontrask, Castlerea and formerly of Kilmurry, Castlerea, and Laragh, County Cavan. She was a nice, gentle person and she will be sadly missed by her husband, James; son, Michael (Athlone)l daughters, Margaret (Castlerea), Susan (Dublin); brothers John and Patrick; grandchildren, Eoin, Aine and James; daughter-in-law, Fiona; son-in-law, Matthew; sister-in-law, Kathleen; brothers-in-law, John Joe and Paddy; nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends. Her remains were removed from Gaynor’s Funeral Home on Wednesday morning, January 8th to St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea, and following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr. Chris Garrett, burial took place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Castlerea. May her gentle soul rest in peace.

LATE ROBERT JAMES TUVEY 

The death occurred on Wednesday, January 1st, peacefully with dignity in the wonderful care of the staff of Roscommon Hospice and in the company of his daughter, Barbara, of Mr Robert James (Bob) Tuvey, Kilkeevan Park, Castlerea. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Anne. He was a very kind, gentle and jolly person. He always had time for people and loved to have the chat with them. He will be sadly missed by his family and many friends. His remains were removed from his home on Saturday, January 4th to St. Patrick’s Church, Castlerea and following Mass of the Resurrection celebrated by Fr. Chris Garrett, a private cremation took place. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

SCHOOL FOOTBALL 

The Castlerea Community School senior boys’ football team sponsored by Cahill’s SuperValu, defeated Drumbshanbo in the quarter-final of the Connacht Colleges Division (D) senior championship on Monday, January 13th at the Centre of Excellence, Bekan, on the score of 4-10 to 3-9. Conditions were anything but good on the day, but credit to both teams for serving up a fine game of football. They will have to show a vast improvement if they are to defeat St. Tiernan’s, Crossmolina, in the semi-final on Wednesday, January 22nd. Team and scorers: Abdul Satter, Conor Larkin, Shane Larkin, Kieran Murray, James Hawkshaw, Ross Flynn, Alan Joyce, Jamie Dowd, Dylan Keane, Ryan Dunleavy, Kevin Hester 1-2, Dara Curran 1-4, John Curran 2-2, Sean Vaughan 0-2, Yani Chiforic. CASTLEPLUNKETT/KILMURRY 

FAMILY FUN WALK 

Castleplunkett Development Association is hosting a spring family fun walk on Bank Holiday Monday, February 3rd, which will begin and end in the heart of Castleplunkett village. Everyone is invited to take part by means of walking, running, scooting or cycling the 6K route. The event will start at 12 noon with registration at 11:30 a.m. Adult entry is €10, child's entry is €5 and family entry is €20. Refreshments will be served afterwards on the village green. All participants are advised to wear a hi - viz for the event. Dogs are welcome but MUST remain on a lead at all times. All funds raised will go directly to the local amenity site in Castleplunkett village. All welcome to come along and enjoy a fun event while helping to raise funds for a fabulous amenity for all to use. Pull on the runners, dust off the bikes and let's get moving!

CASTLEPLUNKETT NS ENROLMENT 

New entrants and their families are invited to visit Castleplunkett NS for an open afternoon on Wednesday, January 29th between 3.30 p.m. and 5.30 p.m., to see the lovely facilities and meet some of the staff. The school community is looking forward to meeting the 2025 pupil intake and their families.

SCÓR
